A fast track development programme. If you’re just starting out, or perhaps you’ve just joined the industry, this is a tough and demanding programme, accredited by University College Birmingham so you’ll need to show that you got the right ability, commitment and determination to be accepted for a place, as you’ll be completing academic assignments as well as your work placed learning!
You'll gain a Foundation Degree in Professional Hospitality Operational Management if you successfully complete the full 2 years programme.
Anyone with NVQ level 3, or 2 A levels. If you've not got these qualification then we can still consider prior work experience. However most importantly we're looking for drive, passion and ambition - you'll need to be able to cope with the demands of combining study with your work.
12 - 24 months (depending if you decide to go on to complete a Foundation Degree)
CERTIFICATE IN HIGHER EDUCATION after 12 months
FOUNDATION DEGREE after 24 months
You'll be based either in one department, or perhaps work around different departments, and throughout the year you'll meet up with other management trainees at one of our hotels to complete your coursework, starting with your university induction at UCB.
Depending on suitable roles being available, you should expect to have secured a supervisory position at the end of year one, and be well on your way to your first Assistant Manager's role in year two, if you decide to take the full Foundation Degree.
Module 1 Professional Development Planning
This is all about you, developing your own personal portfolio of learning, personal & professional experiences and helping you identify your development objectives as part of your continuous professional developmentModule 2 Work-Based Project
You'll work on this throughout the year, and you'll agree your project with your General Manager but you'll be researching, and reporting on customer satisfaction based on your hotel's Bull's Eye Customer.Module 3 Understanding Management Skills

All about finance and providing you with an introduction into the technical skills and knowledge required for income generation, suggestive selling and product/service packagingModule 5 Understanding Finance
You will produce a financial report, helping you to understand back of house procedures!
Module 1 Proposing Business OpportunitiesAll about how to take advantage of new business opportunities, understanding business planning and how internal and external economic factors can affect business planning.
Module 2 Hotel Operations ForecastingDevelop an understanding as to the importance forecasting plays within the business so that proactive and informed business decisions can be made.
Module 3 Developing & Retaining TalentFocusing on People Management including recruitment and selection process, training and development, employment legislation, HR metrics.
Module 4 Measuring Successful Hotel PerformanceWhy organisations have to measure performance, financial and non financial measures and how targets differ between different levels in the organisation, decisions as to identifying what , how and when to measure.
Module 5 Revenue OptimisationHow to maximise revenue through accommodation, F&B, Events, Leisure, Golf and Spa. Developing skills to be able to analyse performance using key internal and external measures eg Customer Satisfaction Tools & HOTSTATS, forecast demand and subsequently develop appropriate rate and yield management strategies.
Module 6 Optimising Sales Enquiry & ConversionThe principles of managing proactive Sales from initial contact to confirmed business.
